After two weeks of gripping television that has had everyone talking, ITV announced today that they are planning a week long Celebrity Cave Rescue to play out over Christmas and New Year.

The series will find out just how well 12 of our favourite celebrities cope with the challenges recently faced by the 12 young footballers and their coach in the Tham Luang Cave complex in Thailand.

Merging psychological and physical pressures with an entertaining gameshow mechanic, the show will be hosted by Tom Daley and Helen Skelton.

ITV have confirmed that all participants will be over 18 but in the spirit of the original Cave Rescue, they hope each celebrity will be best known as a child star.

Speaking at a press conference in London, Assistant Commissioner for ITV, Fanjita Fuch-Weet said “So many of us were gripped by the recent Cave Rescue and we are delighted to be able to bring the excitement of the format back over the festive season, this time with some familiar faces.”

“For the Celebrity Edition however, we’re not just going to have them sat on a rock for two weeks and there will be daily tasks to complete.”

“Then each night there will be a public vote and you’ll be able to decide which of your two favourite (or not so favourite…) celebrities will be be fighting it out for the Prosecco tank.”

“I can’t give too much away yet, but in pre-rehearsal trials on a purpose-built set in Elstree we may have accidentally forgotten to bring James Argent back up again.”
