It’s time for someone to take a stand against rough sleepers in Southend On Sea, and personally I am delighted that the local authority obtained a court order to clear an illegal camp that had been set up on the Seafront.

Disposing of their tents and personal belongings was a good start, but I would have liked to have seen them go further.

Perhaps they could have also impounded the rough sleepers themselves and locked them away somewhere until friends or family turned up with a £300 release fee.

Better still, maybe they could have even arrested them and brought charges of ‘destroying the town’s image,’ with a further allegation of ‘affecting tourism revenue.’

Except that this would never have stood up in court, would it?

With Southend already being a shithole of the highest possible order, the only way that any further damage could be done would be if the powers that be organised a chicken molesting festival on the May Bank Holiday – naturally this would fill the void left by the Airshow.

Obviously this would only take place if road closures were kept to a minimum as well.

One day, politicians in local government will realise that there is more to life than just getting your picture in the paper standing in front of whatever hare-brained piece of fuckery that will keep the Southendian fundamentalists voting you back in, time and time again.
