Some members of the British public have reported that they have received new passports from the UK Government Passport Office WITHOUT the European Union title on the front cover.

The news isn’t entirely a surprise, with the United Kingdom due to leave the European Union in March 2019.

‘Many people had expected the passport itself to change to a shade of blue.

One of the first people to receive this new passport was Jeremy Spaketon from Leigh On Sea in Essex, and he told Southend News Network that he was ‘excited’ by the new design.

He said: ‘When I voted Leave in the EU referendum, I was dreaming of the day when I could be issued with a passport that doesn’t have the words ‘European Union’ on the front cover.’

‘It genuinely brought a tear to my eye when it dropped on the doormat.’

‘The only criticism that I do have is that they seem to have kept the same graphics with the unicorn.’

‘This would have been the perfect opportunity to change them to a more British animal like a bulldog or a squirrel.’

‘It’s amazing to hold this new travel document that will include all of the freedoms that are to come with a European Union-free passport.’

An inside source within the government said: ‘This is just a prototype, however we have found that this post-Brexit design is far cheaper than changing the whole passport design.’

‘There was a rumour that the new passport would be blue instead, but our focus group research showed that people would associate this colour with the theme colour of the European Union – that would be pretty bloody stupid wouldn’t it?’
