Katie Hopkins has now apologised to Southend News Network for saying that our fundraising campaign was ‘fraudulent.’

As you may be aware, we set up the campaign page through JustGiving on Saturday to raise money for food bank charity The Trussell Trust, and it now stands at an amazing £14,700 – check it out here and share!

However, just a few hours after it went live, Katie tweeted to accuse us of starting a ‘fraudulent’ campaign.

KT Tweet

She deleted her tweet very quickly, but fortunately a number of people took a screenshot for us.

Naturally we weren’t prepared to take this lying down as it was very much a legitimate campaign, albeit a satirical one!

Therefore, we politely asked Katie to retract her allegation on Twitter.

To our amazement, she replied and apologised, although there was a small dollop of sarcasm …

So there you have it – an apology of sorts and a tweet to frame for the grandchildren. Please continue to share the appeal!
