There are some things in life that are truly unthinkable, and we are sorry to say that one of our readers has suffered a severe stroke just before Christmas – it goes without saying that the whole experience has thrown Jolene (33), her husband James (33) and their three young children into utter hell.

You may already know that our festive single is in the charts and hopefully raising pots of money for Shelter and the British Heart Foundation, but we were never going to just stand by and do nothing to help these guys from Harwich (don’t worry, James is a Shrimper).

We have set up a GoFundMe page which can be found here.

We would love to try and make the kids’ Christmas as special as possible, and also raise some money for the family and the local stroke organisations in North Essex who will be helping with Jolene’s long recovery when she is allowed to go home.

They have two twin girls aged two, along with another daughter who is four years old. If anyone local would like to help in any other way please email or use the contact form in the menu above.

The SNN faithful have already done some fantastic things this year. We were really grateful for your fundraising efforts for Joe Williams’ walk from Clacton Pier to Southend Pier, as well the ‘bidding war’ for that ‘tasteful’ cake depicting Southend Pier in flames with £200 going towards festive family celebrations for a local domestic violence refuge. It was also great to play a part in getting a bike shed for a local nine-year-old boy called Marcus with cerebral palsy spastic diplegia who needed outdoor protection for his specially-adapted mobility trike.

Thanks again for reading, and please share.
